Shaping The Voting Landscape

The typical voter protection program is defined by the campaign cycle. Once the election is over, the program ends — and all that knowledge and experience evaporates, only to be rebuilt from scratch with each new election cycle.

We’re changing the way we power the vote.

We created Power the Vote to fund year-round voter protection teams supporting state Democratic parties.

U.S. Representative Colin Allred (TX-32)

“I want to be clear: We are not powerless. We can, through efforts like voter protection, push back and protect our democracy. Every one of us has a special call not just to win our elections but to protect the right to those elections, and the work that Power the Vote is doing is so critical to this .”

– Rep. Katie Porter (CA-45)

We’re Fighting For Voters Year-Round

States have already enacted more than 30 voter suppression bills into laws since the beginning of 2021. Republicans are signaling they won’t certify elections when they don’t like the results.

They’re not taking time off. Neither can we.

We have a plan to fight voter suppression by supporting voter protection teams year-round in five battleground states:
Georgia, Florida, Arizona, North Carolina, and Texas

How Our Work Made A Difference In Georgia

In 2018, the Democratic Party of Georgia became the first state party to create a permanent voter protection program. Over the next two years, the team behind Power the Vote built a program grounded in grassroots organizing and year-round relationship building — with elections officials, voters, and volunteers.

Georgia voters delivered, here’s how we helped:

How We Work

We provide voter protection teams with the support to create effective voter protection programs through:

Building Grassroots
Networks

We support the state and local Democratic Parties to build staff and volunteer capacity.

Fighting For Every Vote, Everywhere

It’s not enough to focus on cities and suburbs. Large numbers of marginalized and disenfranchised voters, including voters of color, live in rural communities. Year-round, sustained investments make it possible to fight for every vote — from big cities to rural counties, and everywhere in between.

Cultivating Relationships

Voter protection teams develop relationships with state and local election officials and use those relationships to expand voter access and resolve large-scale voting issues.

Reinvesting With Each Cycle

Every election cycle, voter protection teams lose their institutional knowledge — and with that goes their hard-fought insights and best practices. We capture that knowledge and integrate it into ongoing work in all of our states.

Our Commitment To Voters

We have seen first hand that barriers to voting disproportionately impact voters of color, the elderly, low-income voters, and voters with disabilities. We are committed to fighting for equitable outcomes for all voters, addressing systemic injustices, and amplifying marginalized voices.
